A: If the materials are confirmed to contain asbestos via an acceptable form of 3rd party laboratory analysis, then abatement may be required depending on the current, future plans and/ or condition of the materials. The property owner may consider removal by a qualified abatement contractor if the efforts to perform the scope of work are to undoubtedly disturb those materials. Example: proper sampling and testing have proven the popcorn ceiling texture indeed has asbestos, but the consultant has deemed it fully intact and in good condition. The property owner can decide to leave the material in place without disturbing it or they decide to move forward with their ceiling renovation of smoothing out the finish with a qualified licensed abatement contractor.
