A: A new musty odor in a home after a long absence could mean a few things. 1. Could be dried up plumbing traps. 2. Could be left behind garbage or food that has spoiled. or 3. Mold.
If on a long absence you leave your air conditioning system off, have an unattended leak/ water intrusion event, the air conditioning system fails, or a combination of these occurs, you could have a subsequent mold issue in your home. This is best left to a professional to diagnose as some issues may not be apparent to easily identify but there are a few things you can do as a self-assessment in the meantime.
